Dr. Laila opened Asula Wellness Center in 2006 as the culmination of an upbringing and schooling dedicated to the healing arts. Dr. Laila received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Creative Writing from the University of Iowa, then went on to pursue a degree in Chiropractic from Los Angeles College of Chiropractic. "I always knew that I wanted to help people achieve optimal wellness on all levels. When I started Asula, I knew that it was the perfect union of all my interests and aspirations."

Dr. Laila specializes in low force techniques such as activator method, cranial sacral, drop table, and myofascial release, as well as stronger interventions like diversified adjusting and graston technique.  Her care is gentle but effective.  She believes in the importance of strengthening after an injury and uses stabilization exercises to prevent reoccurrence of injury.  She draws from yoga and pilates, in addition to more traditional physical therapy exercises.  With two young children of her own and advanced training in cranial sacral technique, Dr. Laila has a specialty in pregnancy and postpartum care, as well as working with newborns and infants.

Another area of specialty for Dr. Laila is nutrition and functional medicine.  Dr. Laila will work with patients to identify diet and lifestyle factors that can be contributing to their loss of well being.  Factors such as inflammation, hormone balance, blood sugar instability, and digestive issues can all contribute to pain in the body, as well as impact how you feel on a daily basis.

Dr. Laila believes that good health means finding balance. "We all have different goals regarding our health. My job is to educate my patients and help them to achieve what is right for them." In her free time she enjoys yoga, hiking and having adventures with her husband and two boys, Shea and Kian.

Upon graduating with a degree in Psychology, Dr. Grant migrated west to attend Western States Chiropractic College where he received a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology and a Doctorate of Chiropractic. Dr. Grant works with his patients to reach their health goals. Dr. Brianne Bailey, DC
Doctor of Chiropractic
Dr. Brianne Bailey, DC
Doctor of Chiropractic

Dr. Brianne became passionate about chiropractic care following two ACL reconstructive surgeries during her teenage years. Chiropractic played a central role in her recovery and prevention of future injuries. As Dr. Brianne continued receiving care after her days as a competitive athlete ended, she found that chiropractic was able to evolve her health in ways beyond athletics. Her chiropractor provided lifestyle changes that have completely changed her way of living and thinking.

Through her injuries, Dr. Brianne became passionate about utilizing health and fitness to assist in her post surgical knee rehabilitation. She became very involved in weight lifting programs that focused on olympic style lifting, where she ultimately became an assistant coach for the program. She went on to receive her Bachelors of Health and Exercise Science from Colorado State University. Following her completion of undergrad, she continued to grow her knowledge of wellness through a more medical approach and attended the University of Western States, where she received her Doctorate of Chiropractic.

Dr. Brianne’s treatment style focuses on proper diagnosis to find and treat the underlying cause of the issue and provide proper treatment for optimal relief. Her treatment sessions include lifestyle modifications, nutritional revisions, chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue manipulation (manual and instrument assisted), rehabilitation/exercise prescription, and stress management. Dr. Brianne is a promoter of anti-inflammatory living and is passionate about working with individuals struggling with digestive issues that may be contributing to distress.

Shahrzad Fakhravar L.Ac
Licensed Acupuncturist & Herbalist

Shahrzad Fakhravar L.Ac., Dipl. O.M grew up in Portland, Oregon as a first generation Iranian-American. As a child, her weak immune system led her grandmother to put together natural remedies from the "old country" to boost her health, introducing Shahrzad to natural medicine at a very young age.

During her undergraduate years at Portland State University, Shahrzad dealt with recurring migraines and seasonal colds that kept her in bed for several weeks each year. Signs of an autoimmune disorder began to surface and that's when she turned to acupuncture and Oriental medicine (AOM). AOM helped her deal with her weak immune system, but also helped prevent the worsening of illnesses that had the potential to debilitate her. Shahrzad was hooked, and knew that she wanted to pursue her graduate degree in AOM.

Shahrzad graduated from Oregon College of Oriental Medicine. Her internships at OCOM Acupuncture & Herbal Clinic, OHSU Family Medicine Clinic and Quest Center for Integrative Health allowed her to focus on her interests in women's health, pain management and auto-immune disorders.

Shahrzad finds great joy in helping her patient achieve balance and wellness, and empowers them to continue on their own healing path.   L.Ac # 152813

Annette Zoe Fallian, L.Ac.
Licensed Acupuncturist, Board Certified Herbalist

Zoë has been interested in the medical and healing arts for most of her life. She decided to study Chinese Medicine, and has been completely taken by its beauty and poetry, by its coherence and logic, and most importantly, by its effectiveness. Zoë is fascinated by how our bodies respond to acupuncture. Every single patient presents a unique puzzle and a new process of discovery. Each treatment is a personalized approach to what brings health and balance to the body. Finding the best approach and seeing results are deeply fulfilling experiences as a practitioner, and she is always in awe that people allow her to go along on this journey with them.

As Zoë continues to practice, her strengths and areas of focus continue to evolve.  She is experienced in working with pain management but equally loves the diversity and intensity of internal medicine. She treats women who are experiencing menstrual or menopausal symptoms, men who are dealing with infertility, sexual dysfunction, or prostate issues; she helps patients deal with chronic and acute pain, stress, insomnia, digestive issues, and a number of other health concerns. By using acupuncture and herbal medicine, Zoë has access to a powerful approach that allows her to address not only the physical, but also the emotional aspects of health and well-being.

Zoë has degrees in math and psychology. In 2007 she enrolled at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in Chicago. After completing the Asian bodywork certification program there, she moved to Portland, OR where she received her Master's degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Oregon College of Oriental Medicine. As Zoë learns more about this medicine, she is continually fascinated by its depth. Bethany Garrison-Mancini
Office Manager & Licensed Massage Therapist
Bethany Garrison-Mancini
Office Manager & Licensed Massage Therapist

Bethany learned at an early age the benefits of helping someone feel better through therapeutic touch. Her father was a carpenter and would often have her walk on his back and rub his shoulders because of the pain he endured from his physically demanding job. This early imprint of making a difference through touch never left her mind, and in 2008 she enrolled at East West College of the Healing Arts in Portland, OR.

Bethany's massages are highly intuitive and draw from modalities including Swedish, Deep Tissue, Trigger Point Therapy, Pre-Natal & Hot Stone Massage therapies. She hopes that her massages will help people reclaim a balanced, vibrant, healthy body that is more aware and present.

In 2013, Bethany transitioned to become the Office Manager at Asula Pearl.  She hopes that by managing the office efficiently and with the same intuitive energy she brought to massage, that patients will find a warm and caring environment.  Before becoming the Office Manager, Bethany worked in the entertainment industry as a film manager and graphic designer. She earned her BFA from California Lutheran University in 2002 and a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Painting & Drawing from Oregon College of Art & Craft in 2005. Outside of work she enjoys painting and drawing, biking, cooking, gardening, yoga & traveling.

Kate Heller
Licensed Massage Therapist & Chiropractic Assistant
Kate Heller
Licensed Massage Therapist & Chiropractic Assistant

Upon graduating high school, Kate enrolled at East West College of the Healing Arts in Portland, OR, where she studied varying types of massage modalities and became specialized in Structural Integration and Tui Na. About a year after finishing the program at East West, Kate was fortunate enough to begin an unofficial mentorship with Jon Hart, a former instructor and extremely talented therapist.  Kate was able to further her therapeutic knowledge in a way she never expected to. Jon taught her how to really see what is going on in a patient’s body and there is usually more than meets the eye with any particular set of complaints that a client may present with that day. Also, he stressed that a healthy dose of humor goes a long way towards making a session more enjoyable while working through those less than pleasant areas!

The longer Kate has been a therapist, the more she has come to believe that massage is an important component of a healthy lifestyle. Not only does it allow for a person’s pain or discomfort to be dealt with in a less invasive way than contemporary medicine, but it also gives people a quality of touch that is a missing component in many people’s daily lives. It reminds a person, whether they are an extremely busy lawyer with a chaotic schedule, or a harried mother of four just trying to take a breather for herself for the first time in a month, that they matter and deserve to be taken care of, even if it is only for an hour. It is a pretty wonderful gift to give someone in Kate’s opinion!

Kate feels very passionate about being able to make a difference in people’s lives through her bodywork. She always had a desire to help others, and doing bodywork enables her to do exactly that every day. She loves encouraging patients about their progress on days they feel frustrated, and to be there to give them that little nudge to remind them how far they have come. Most of all, she feels incredibly humbled realizing these patients are entrusting not only their aches and pains to her, but also the vulnerabilities that are hidden beneath the surface in their bodies that no one else will see. Kate feels very honored to be a part of such a profession that gives people the space to open up in such a beautiful way.

Mariah Borman
Licensed Massage Therapist & Chiropractic Assistant

Mariah realized at a very young age she had a strong desire and natural talent to nurture others through touch. After many years of rubbing the shoulders and feet of her loved ones, she graduated from Anthem College in her home town of Sacramento, California in 2007. Her 800+ hour massage therapy program allowed her to learn and train in many different styles, her favorites being Shiatsu, Swedish, Deep Tissue, Trigger Point Therapy & Reiki. During her training, she experienced an immense amount of personal growth, grounding, and heightened intuition. Her sessions focus on deep physical and mental relaxation through breath work, compression and positive intention. "A stroke without intention is an empty gesture." She feels that creating an environment for others to feel safe and let get emotionally allows their physical body to let go as well.

Aside from doing bodywork at Asula, she is very passionate about animals, cooking, hoop dancing, camping and hiking.

Mitchell Dasteel
Licensed Massage Therapist, Emotional Freedom Technique Practitioner & Chiropractic Assistant
Mitchell Dasteel
Licensed Massage Therapist, Emotional Freedom Technique Practitioner & Chiropractic Assistant

Mitchell's approach to the intersection of mind, spirit, and body is founded on the belief that deep within each person is a limitless self-healing capacity. He deeply trusts the intuition of each of his clients, and listens closely to the stories their bodies hold. Rather, perceiving his client as a passive receiver, Mitchell views bodywork and EFT sessions as an opportunity for his client to enter into deeper relationship with themselves on all levels of being; his role is not to "do" something to them, but remind them that their deepest self is already capable of healing all wounds given the right environment. He feels deeply humbled to hold the container for this transformation and inner meeting to occur, and honors the courage it takes to facilitate true healing.

Mitchell's fascination with the somatic experience began while receiving his bachelor's degree in "Opening Minds: Studying the Science of Psychology and Spiritual Development" from the Johnston Center at the University of Redlands. His own chronic pain led him to the power of healing touch, and he graduated from the 840 hour intensive program at the Discovery Point of Massage in Seattle, WA in 2016 with training in structural integration techniques, prenatal massage, trigger point therapy, Swedish, deep tissue, reflexology, and more. Ever a passionate learner, he has recently completed a year-long mentorship program in an advanced form of myofascial release and continuing education courses for cranial sacral therapy, Reiki, BodyTalk, and the Trager Approach. Mitchell honors the mind-body connection through his work as an experienced Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) practitioner. Implementing techniques found in Chinese medicine, gestalt therapy, encounter groups, and modern psychology, EFT is an extremely powerful and effective modality that helps people rapidly process through any form of stress, anxiety, fear, self-doubt, limiting beliefs, and chronic pains, often when other approaches have failed to provide growth or relief.

In his free time, Mitchell loves practicing yoga, snuggling with his cat, hiking with his partner, and excitedly awaiting the arrival of their first child this November.

Peter Kesselring attended East West College of the Healing Arts in Portland, OR. Peter is passionate about the mind-body connection and our own internal strength to heal. He believes touch can have a profound effect on not only our day-to-day, but also on our whole outlook on life.

Renee Greiner
Licensed Massage Therapist & Chiropractic Assistant

Renée began her path towards embodied healing in New York in 2008 when she began teaching yoga at Sankalpah Yoga Studio. She has taught yoga in New York, Los Angeles and Portland to runners, clients experiencing S.I joint pain, and working with complicated conditions like chronic depression. She became interested in massage as a complimentary path towards alleviating physical and mental pain after seeing an LMT who helped alleviate her depression in 2009. She loves how massage combines the creative, intuitive and scientific in one practice; and believes that each individual has the tools he/she needs to heal.

Renée studied massage at East West College of the Healing Arts where she specialized in Structural Integration and Thai. Her approach to massage therapy reflects the deep held belief that to listen to someone else deeply allows us to help effectively. Listening starts with the breath; and she will often use the breath as a tool to gauge where there are muscular and fascial restrictions and move outward from there. Within her massage, she draws from Structural Integration, Trigger Point Therapy, Thai, and Swedish.

Renée is a writer, meditator, and a practitioner of the 5 Rhythms dance practice. Renee believes that healing happens creatively; and that your healing process is dynamic, unique, and can be accelerated with massage.

Licensed Massage Therapist & Chiropractic Assistant
Willa Thomas
Licensed Massage Therapist & Chiropractic Assistant

Willa became a massage therapist because it allows her true talents to shine through while providing a service that enhances the well-being of others. “Giving massage benefits me as much as it benefits my clients. During a session I am able to relax and focus my mind on the massage. This keeps me grounded and leaves me feeling joyful.”

Willa graduated from East West College of the Healing Arts in 2015. Her work is very intuitive; she uses firm, intentional strokes which help to promote relaxation and awareness within the body. She specializes in Deep Tissue, Swedish, and loves to work with the body’s energy flow by employing Tui Na techniques. Willa believes that one of the best ways to assist her clients is to provide a space for them to let go of their daily worries and connect with their body. Once this happens, natural and holistic healing can begin to take place.

In her free time Willa enjoys being in the sunshine, reading, running, and binging on Netflix. She can usually be found with her husband and their very affectionate lab mix, Abby.

Kelly Conlin
On-Call Licensed Massage Therapist & Chiropractic Assistant

Kelly Lee grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii. She received a Bachelor’s degree in anthropology from Columbia University, and after graduating took a job at a New York City consulting firm serving nonprofits and foundations.

One day, staring into her computer screen as her upper back burned and her lower back ached, she decided to change directions and enroll in massage school in order to understand why she, and so many others, experienced pain just from sitting at a desk all day.

After receiving an Associate’s degree in Occupational Studies from the Swedish Institute College of Health Sciences, she began working in multiple settings – gym, day spa, and medical – and immediately sought further education to elevate her work. She has pursued extensive continuing study in goal-oriented modalities, long term mentorship with chiropractor Dr. George Russell, and is certified in medical massage through the Swedish Institute, which she specializes in today. Having worked in several physical therapy and chiropractic settings, she loves helping office-workers, athletes and weekend warriors address their postural imbalances and aches and pains.

Kelly has a passion for getting the best results for anyone on her table. Clients comment that her work is strong, engaged, and thorough. Using both technique and intuition, she strives to get her clients where they want to go.

In her free time, she likes to swing dance, practice yoga, and eat her husband’s cooking. She recently moved to Oregon from New York City in order to be closer to the Pacific, her family, and trees.

Jana Zahler
On-Call Licensed Massage Therapist & Chiropractic Assistant

Jana discovered the benefits of massage and bodywork through her dance training during her undergraduate studies at the University of Oregon. Creating movement and exploring ways the body can move has been a life-long passion of hers. She believes the body has the answers to our questions if we ask them and listen with care. The body's healing potential is great, and she is fascinated with alternative healing methods.

In March 2015, Jana graduated from East West College of the Healing Arts. She specializes in Swedish and Deep Tissue massage and loves to work on specific issues to solve musculoskeletal problems, especially ones involving the extremities.

As a native Oregonian, Jana enjoys camping, backpacking, and solo adventuring. Aside from working as a Chiropractic Assistant and Licensed Massage Therapist, she is also a nanny. Jana loves to hula hoop, choregraph dances with her dance partner, snuggle with her cat and enjoy Portland with her family and friends.
